A unique opportunity to hear Dr Jessica Goodheart, Assistant Curator of Malacology and Assistant Professor at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City speak about her research. This seminar is open to members of the public.
Dr. Goodheart's research interests involve understanding how complex features originate and diversify, with a particular focus on the sequestration of external structures and chemicals. Her research is integrative, using phylogenetic analysis and comparative biology to investigate how complex phenotypes are organized and evolved across multiple biological levels (e.g., ecology, tissues, and molecules).
Most of her research has focused on nudibranchs, a group of gastropods that lose their shell during development, and how they evolved the ability to steal nematocysts (stinging organelles) from their cnidarian prey.
